The Canadian-American Center at the University of Maine is offering Graduate awards in Canadian Studies on a competitive basis. Graduate students of any field (History, French Communications, English, …) can apply as long as there is a Canadian component to their research.
Among the Awards, The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Awards are available to graduate students using North American French at the intermediate or higher level in their research. Each award consists of a $15,000 stipend, plus a tuition waiver and 50% of health insurance. The Center also makes available five Summer FLAS awards that fund 6 weeks of intense French language study at a Canadian university. These awards carry a $2,500 stipend and payment of tuition fees. These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education through its Title VI International Graduate Education Program. FLAS awards are open only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.*
